When God gives you a Farm, Fill it like the Ark.
A Simple reminder of the rewards of Adoption.
My Sister, Runs a couple blogs, one about Farming on a budget, and the other about Bulk Shopping. This year she adopted a Lab Mix named Daisy.
Daisy was a Shelter Puppy until a little Family came along from Upstate NY, and decided She’d be the next addition to the ever expanding Farm.
There are more homeless dogs than people…
Let me shed some light on the facts.
Animal Shelters often don’t charge more than $250 for adoption. Most are given up, and many are entered into the Shelter still very young ( like Daisy ) 25% of Shelter Dogs are Purebred. Daisy here seems to be a special mix of Golden and Lab.
6.5 Million Sheltered animals each year.
Half of them are Dogs. People continue to buy from breeders for their “Type”.
One of the most important facts to consider is, Dogs give Children a better home. Not only do you save them, But they save you too. Studies have proven Animals are crucial for stress, and establishing trust and love with Children, setting them up for inherently better futures.
Shelter dogs LOVE humans.
And maybe something to chew on.
Seriously, Daisy always wants to cuddle. She’s longing to make the connection. Its beautiful. Especially when they come from a place of isolation and extreme competition.
Daisy is, well lets she shes very hyperactive, so you constantly have to keep her anxiety in check. Often leading trying to “Wear her out”. Every animal has their particular behaviors. Some are breed specific, others are what they’ve inherited.
Daisy has her traits.
She tends to put her mouth around your arm in excitement, this can hurt. Sharp puppy teeth, and strong jaws! Her coat is real stinky. You could bathe her everyday but here on the Farm, It’s part all part of the “Aura”. And obviously, Shes still young. So she has all the puppy personality, which require lots of training and patience.
I had a soft spot for Daisy since the beginning.
My Sister struggled with it, wondering if she was a good fit for her Family. I give her and her Husband tons of credit, as they have quite a bit to juggle with two kids, two Mini Pigs, Chickens, and a litter of Barn Cats and demanding jobs. If this is you Struggling with a new adoption, Give them time. Whilst, giving yourself even MORE TIME with them.
Love has a profound and everlasting mold on Animals.
Especially Dogs. “Man’s best friend”
And I’m really happy Daisy is a part of the love this family has dedicated to her. Love is something everything deserves. Our Pets often are a fantastic place to start.
