Change of Interest Black and White Pigeon Bird Pittsburgh Taylor Handy Photo

You’ve suddenly taken interest in a weird new subject.

This has happened to me time and time again. And most recently for me personally, it’s been birds. I love their sounds, which are clues to find them. Or just beautiful songs. They are extremely tough to photograph due to their agile movements and unpredictable patterns.

I’ve bought birdwatching books, I’ve listened to bird calls, and even convinced my girlfriend to go on a nature walk to a 400 mile avian preservation in Northern Pittsburgh.

Have you suddenly found a new subject you’re wild about?

Remember we all go through phases. Like an algorithm on Instagram.
One month everyone wants bright colors, another month they want more dark neutral colors.

And yes, its just a phase. Some I have since skated past.

So you find yourself in a position like our Pigeon friend up there. In between two favorite spots. Often they say

Focus on one thing, and be good at it

But, It’s just not true. At the end of the day. I’m satisfied with shooting Birds.

It challenges me, I find inspiration doing it. This is what’s important. And if that one thing is enough for you, then by all means.

But I love Photography, and I have for 15 years and can’t possibly think of only chasing 1 facet of this incredibly expansive creative passion.

Funny, I’ve found myself to primarily shoot black and white.
